What a frequency generator is useful for
A sine tone contains one main frequency, making it useful for comparing speaker response, identifying obvious rattles and checking whether a phone produces sound across part of the audible range. It can also help demonstrate pitch, but it is not a calibrated laboratory instrument.
Phone speakers are small and are not designed to reproduce the full 20 Hz to 20 kHz range evenly. A tone that is quiet or absent at an extreme frequency may reflect normal device limits, your hearing, browser processing or the room—not necessarily damage.
Use low volume and short tests
Single-frequency tones can feel more intense than normal music. Start low and make short comparisons. Do not hold a playing speaker next to your ear, and be considerate of children, pets and other people nearby. Some high frequencies may be audible to others even when you cannot hear them.
Very low frequencies may cause visible speaker movement without producing much audible sound. Increasing volume aggressively to “make it work” can overload a small speaker. The generator caps its own output, but your phone volume remains under your control.
Why a fixed frequency is not a universal cleaner
Speaker-cleaning sites often promote one number as best for every device. Real speakers differ in chamber size, resonance, protective mesh and software processing. A sweep can move the diaphragm across a range, but no browser tone guarantees removal of water or dust.
Use the guided Speaker Cleaner or Water Eject mode for a timed, moderate sequence. Use the manual generator when you have a specific testing reason and understand the limitations.
Interpreting unusual results
A rattle at one frequency may come from the case, a loose accessory, the surface under the phone or the speaker itself. Remove the case, hold the phone without covering openings and repeat at a lower volume. If the same harsh distortion appears in ordinary speech and music, service may be appropriate.
