First minutes after exposure
Take the phone out of the liquid and disconnect power and accessories. Remove the case because it can trap moisture. Wipe the outside without shaking the phone aggressively. Hold the charging connector downward and follow any liquid-detection warning on screen.
If the phone was fully submerged, exposed to salt water or another liquid, or has a cracked body, the risk is higher than a few drops at the speaker grille. The safest next step may be manufacturer support rather than repeated testing.
Drying without adding new damage
Place the phone in a dry area with airflow. A fan using cool air can help around a connector when manufacturer guidance allows it. Do not use a hair dryer, heater, oven or direct sun. Heat can affect adhesives, seals and the battery.
Do not insert paper, cotton swabs or tools into openings. Do not use canned compressed air. Rice is not a controlled drying method and can introduce particles. Time and airflow are less dramatic but more sensible.
Where the water-eject sound fits
A low-frequency sweep may move droplets sitting at the loudspeaker opening. Position the speaker downward on a dry cloth and run one moderate cycle. Then stop and let the phone continue drying. The tone cannot clear moisture from every internal area and should not be treated as proof that charging is safe.
Judge progress using the same short voice or music clip at the same volume. Bubbling or muffling that slowly improves is consistent with evaporation. Harsh buzzing, silence or other device failures are stronger reasons for inspection.
When to stop home troubleshooting
Arrange service if the phone becomes hot, restarts, will not charge after the recommended drying period, displays persistent liquid alerts, loses camera or touch functions, or produces severe speaker distortion. Battery swelling, smoke or unusual odour is an urgent safety issue—turn the device off and move away from flammable materials.
